there are the photos
of the trips they
take together

photos of one another's faces
eyes,
hands,
feet,
here she is eating
here he is smiling at something...
me? something i said? mouths open
mouths full
drinks in their hands

sometimes (most times) they're posed in front of monuments
or the seaside
or the ferry
or the lake
or the museum
or the street sign
or the restaurant
where "something happened once"
but the photo is not of that thing,
that thing is an excuse
a backdrop
for the real picture
which is her
or him
or them

these photos are often closeups;
the scenery is love
